Where we are…
Cowshed 488 is located in Totara Flat on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Directly across from the stunning Paparoa mountains and situated on the family Dairy Farm. Totara Flat is located around 35 minutes drive inland North of Greymouth and an hour North of Hokitika. This tranquil environment is home to a large variety of bird (& cow) life. Cowshed 488 is just set back from the road at the entrance to the dairy farm.
THINGS TO DO...
Explore a lot of the coastal and mountain walking tracks along the Paparoa Ranges. There are plenty of walking and cycling tracks and places to go depending on the time frame you want to be out for. From (fingerscrossed) the spring/summer of 2019, the new walk over the Paparoa’s should be open and ready to use. This is the memorial Pike track after the devastating mine disaster.
Feeling like a day exploring on the road?...There are so many places to go and see around us. Drive North and make your way inland up to Westport for a walk along the beautiful Cape Foulwind beach (a personal fave) followed by a drive down the coastal road through the landmark spot of Punakaiki and back up through Greymouth to Cowshed 488. Drive South to glacier country, or just drive to the local towns of Hokitika and Greymouth for an excellent fish n' chips by sea.
Or do what we love to do when we are away…
Sit back and relax...take time out to unwind away from the busy life and read a book on the verandah; sip a g&t in the sunset with good company or have a long hot bubble bath in the winter after a farm walk. Indulge in a bit of ‘me’ time.
